Letter count

Tips for better results

1
Try the full clue

Exact clue text gives the archive the strongest chance to find a historical match.

2
Use letter counts

Tap `5`, `6`, `7` and so on to auto-fill a wildcard pattern with the right answer length.

3
Archive stays first

Stored crossword hits show first, and extra non-archive suggestions appear below them when available.

How Our Crossword Solver Works

Our crossword solver checks historical archive matches first, then adds extra non-archive suggestions underneath when they are available. That means the most trustworthy stored crossword hits stay at the top, while broader guesses still help when the archive is thin.

You can narrow results in two ways: enter a letter pattern with question marks for unknown letters, or tap a letter-count chip to auto-fill the right answer length. This helps a lot on short clues where many possible answers can look similar.

Pattern Matching Guide

The pattern field lets you describe the answer shape you are looking for. Use uppercase letters for known positions and question marks (`?`) for unknown letters. For example, if you know the answer is four letters long and looks like `O??O`, enter that pattern directly. If you only know the length, tap the `4` letter chip and the solver will search with `????`.
